A DS21 found on a
Vietnamese forum in
November 2012, with this
grey-coloured band alongside
the car's lower body which
seems to be a regular feature
in this country.
Below: the vertical air
vents on the side are
rather typical in hot
countries, but the side
winker right above them is
more unusual.
The car, a 1968 DS21 Pallas, was first fully
stripped off its elements. The body panels
were re-made, the openings on the side
fenders and the hood repaired, and the
engine was overhauled. Parts were found
locally, others were sent from Europe. The
original configuration was restored as much
as possible. It took nine months to the
HCMC garage Binh Tan to complete the
job.
Done ! Trần Minh Tâm , that's the name of our hero, is very proud of the result, as he
should be, and he does not miss an opportunity to take his family out for a ride, sometimes
with other members of the Saigon Classic Car Club, in the countryside or to other towns
such as Dalat, Ha Tien or Vinh Long.
Why this passion for a DS ? Trần Minh Tâm
had a CX and he loved it. But seven years
ago he had to sell it, and he missed the
hydraulic system and the suspension so
much that he decided he'd buy a DS or an
ID. When he found one, it took months
to persuade the owner to sell it. Says he: "It
is a unique car, very special: the style, the
structure, the feeling of drive. It's beautiful,
very comfortable."
Update ! (July 2013) This DS luckily found
a new owner, who gave it a complete
restoration, and who now regularly uses it
for week-ends upcountry with family and
friends.
The other DS on the photo above belongs to
a friend of his, who just bought it and is still
in the process of restoring it. It is already
shown on this site,
